Baldev Dauji Temple near Mathura

Overview

Located approximately 18 km southeast of Mathura, the Baldev Dauji Temple is a revered site dedicated to Lord Balarama, the elder brother of Lord Krishna. It is believed that the deity was installed by Vajranabha in 1535 AD, with a history that dates back almost 5000 years. This temple holds immense religious significance for Hindus and is a popular pilgrimage destination. <br/> Adjacent to the temple lies Kshir Sagar, or the ‘Sea of Milk,’ where, according to legend, Gosain Gokul Nath had a vision of the Lord hidden within the Kund. Following this vision, a search was conducted, and the idol of Lord Balarama was discovered. Several attempts were made to move the idol to Gokul, but each time, the carts carrying it broke down, signifying the Lord’s wish to remain in this sacred spot. As a result, a shrine was built at the very site to honor and house the deity.
